Having family members with different skin irritations and a fiance that works in construction, I wanted an all natural product that I could trust on their skin. After doing my research, I developed this recipe for a healing salve that virtually anyone over 6 years of age can use. So let me tell you what's in it, and how these ingredients are beneficial for your skin ailments. First off, I infused Hemp oil, Sweet Almond oil, Coconut oil and Rice Bran oil with dried Calendula flowers, Chamomile flowers, Plantain leaves, Lavender, Rosemary, Lemon Balm, Rose buds and Peppermint leaves. After the infusion was complete (and the aroma in my house was amazing), I added therapeutic grade EO's, Vitamin E and organic beeswax to harden up the salve. This beautiful mossy green salve has no contradictions with most skin types, and can help with abrasions, cuts, bug bites, psoriasis, eczema, cold sores, bruises, hemorrhoids, burns, dry skin, and just about any other skin affliction that you would use a brand name antibacterial ointment on. About the herbs: *Calendula flowers can help reduce pain and swelling (inflammation) and treat poorly healing wounds and leg ulcers. It is thought that the chemicals in calendula help new tissue grow in wounds. *Chamomile flowers are used for their excellent healing properties. Chamomile is sometimes called an “herbal aspirin” since it’s been a popular home remedy for lowering pain for centuries. Chamomile flowers are used alone or in combination with other anti-inflammatory herbs to reduce pain, swelling and redness. They’re effective at reducing facial swelling, skin irritations, toothaches, pain from infections and underlying issues of inflammation. This is the reason chamomile extract is commonly added to beauty products like facial or body lotions, toothpastes, and bath soaps. *Plantain leaves contain substances that help kill bacteria and reduce swelling. These benefits make it perfect for using on irritated or bleeding hemorrhoids as well as wounds. *Rosemary isn't just for cooking! Applied topically, Rosemary helps with eczema, joint or muscle pain such as myalgia, and wound healing. It's also used as an insect repellent! *Lavender is a very well known herb and is used extensively in lotions, tea, sleep remedies just to name a few. Lavender contains an oil that seems to have sedating effects and might relax certain muscles. Some people use lavender for painful conditions including sprains, nerve pain, sores, and joint pain. It is also used for acne. *Lemon Balm had a calming effect, so it's often used for anxiety, sleep problems, and restlessness. Inhaled as aromatherapy, it's used for Alzheimer's disease. Topically it's used for insect bites and treating cold sore (herpes labialis). *Rose Buds and Petals are a natural source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant which can block some of the damage that can result from exposure to toxins and free radicals. Such damage can lead to increased rates of aging. Vitamin C also provides support for your immune system, and it aids in the production of collagen, a protein essential for healthy skin and hair. *Peppermint has a soothing and cooling effect, especially great for sprains or bruises. It always works as a great anti-bacterial agent in salves and balms.
